Why does the government keep closing Post Offices?
Post offices are a lifeline to communities large and small. Why does the government keep going against the majority who wish them to remain open? Our taxes are chucked away on all kinds of needless projects and gifted to scoungers left, right and centre. Why not use some common sense for a change?
Answer: The government were voted in by the public but they never do what is best for the majority. The Iraq war was opposed by a huge majority of Brits so if they ignore the plight of an illegal war then they will ignore just about anything that's needed by the people of Britain.

When does a letter become the post offices property?
Okay, I saw on a message board people saying that if someone gets pulled over with something their not supposed to have...in some cases it was a radar detector in other cases it was pot. Anyhow, they said if you seal it in an envelope addressed with a stamp the cops cant open it. I thought this sounded kind of ridiculous. Someone else commented that if it were pot or something you would then be in trouble for felonies for sending drugs through the mail. I guess I had two questions. A. Would a cop be able to open the envelope? B. When does the mail become the Post offices property, as soon as its addressed and stamped or not until you drop it in a mailbox?
Answer: Mail is taken into the custody of the USPS once it drops into a mailbox. The cop wouldn't have to bother to open an envelope he could hold you for a K9 unit or impound the whole vehicle and get a warrant if he didn't immediately have "just cause." If a K9 "hits" on your vehicle the last thing you're going to have to worry about is a letter.

Thanks for your answers!
Answer: I don't know about the comparative rates but the PO doesn't charge commission when you buy currency such as euros.

where to buy postage stamps in VA besides the post offices?
Well I know the Post offices sell stamps but since I dont live near any of them. Im planning on buying stamps from different places.
Any brilliant ideas?
Answer: well if you go the usps.com website\ then chose find a post office then website will then give you some choices (one is called alternate locations to buy stamps) chose that location then it will ask you for the zip code (or a city and state) I choice Richmond (since the asker didn't say what city they were in) so the locators tells CVS, and Kroger and walgreens and food lion sell the stamps and note they have to sell that at the same price from the post office also did you know you also order them online (or even from the post office, (next time you are at the post office ask postal clerk for stamps by mail order blank/form

why are banks and post offices open hours that everyone is at work?

Do you think that the Governments proposed plan to close small rural Post Offices is just a form of ageism?
Considering that a lot of the people who use the smaller rural Post offices are the very elderly, who cannot use public transport (due to their infirmities) and do not have the internet, is it not these very people who need the local Post Office, often in the village shop where they buy their groceries?
This question is aimed at UK residents. I do not know what is happening in the USA but it would appear to have similar problems to here. Thanks for your viewpoints.
Answer: I think that is a very well thought out question. Transport and internet access for older people in rural areas are both serious problems. Not to mention the fact that Post offices are great places to pass on information to people about what is happening locally. My grandmother (who lived in a little village) was partially sighted and very frail towards the end of her life and had to rely on neighbours for shopping/ someone collecting her pension when the village store closed. However, she had always been a very independent person and having to rely on people so much got her down at times. That is perhaps the positive side - villages are more community spirited than rural areas and people do help their neighbours out more. But again, removing the Post offices would mean removing sources of information about clubs/societies/ organisations needing volunteers.
